Mosaic Workshops in Javea, Costa Blanca.
This one or two day intensive course will explore the traditional and innovative styles to the making of mosaics taking participants through all the stages of the Direct Method (the most basic and common technique for the laying of mosaic) and the Roman style of laying tiles. Whether a novice or experienced mosaicist this course will accomodate all levels of ability.
Starting with a short discussion on this most ancient art form as well looking through visual sources, material i.e books, samples , vitreous glass, marble, smalti and milliefiore. We will go through every stage starting with design considerations, cutting and shaping and grouting techniques. Taught by a professional mosaic artist of 25 years this course is stimulating , therapeutic and really relaxing.
Courses on the Indirect Method (A mosaic laying technique often used for large-scale work usually intended for outdoor settings and surfaces that require a completeley flat surface) and using handmade venetian Smalti (these rectangular chunks of opaque glass offer an irregular highly reflective surface) are available on request.
